Gianna in the country

Daddy's new accessories--beer and a Gianna-clutch.

Bathing beauty and the cows.

We finally coaxe d her into the pool--she seemed to enjoy it today. Of course, the pool temp was probably about 90 degrees, just like the bathtub!

Outside after illness

Gianna had been sick the last couple of days. She had to come home from school on Thursday because she was throwing up and she had a fever. It was so sad--she looked really scared. Anyway, once the nausea passed she was a crazy eater and ate everything in sight.

Gianna had her 12month doctor's appointment last week. Here are the stats:
Weight: 18lbs 9ounces (20th percentile)
Height: 29 and 1/2 inches (75th percentile)
Head: 17 inches (25th percentile).

Her head looks larger than it actually is because of all that hair.

Delicately tasting the dead leaves.

Dead pet & Playful Gianna

A few days ago I noticed this baby praying mantis in our kitchen. He was very small, but I spent quite a long time studying him and watching him groom himself. I was excited to see him grow up and I started thinking of names and where we would keep him. He was tiny, but I figured he was hardy. Well, the next morning I woke up and found that he had passed away. He was still intact, so Matt suggested I carefully place him outside and maybe he would come back to life. I followed his instructions, but since I don't have praying mantis video surveillance, I don't know if he came back. Overall, a sad experience.

Gianna got some new toys for her birthday. Here she is with her new vinyl banana...

and her new slide.

We took some professional photos yesterday. The session included some cake smashing and rubbing all over Gianna (including hair and entire body) and mommy (including entire body). Afterwards, Gianna was a little loopy. She was having a lot of fun with this lid.

Birthday, Part 3

Cake and cupcakes, courtesy of Daddy (mommy helped with the frosting).

Gianna examining her birthday card (again).

Eating birthday cake. We didn't get any of her smashing the cake or rubbing it all over her face. I guess she is just too ladylike. She must take after her mommy. :)

Birthday Party

Gianna went to her friend Mia's birthday party today. It was also a party for Mia's older brother who has the same birthday as Gianna. They weren't quite sure what to do in this bouncy contraption.

Gianna wasn't too sure about the slide.

She did enjoy the grass, though.

And eating the leaves! Don't worry, I fished it out of her mouth after the picture was taken. This cute dress was a birthday present from Great Aunt Laura and Uncle Dale. Isn't it cute?

Happy 4th of July (and birthday, part 2)

Today we went to Grandma's house to celebrate Gianna's birthday with the family in Columbus. Grandma has a pool, so we thought Gianna would maybe try swimming. We were so wrong. She shrieked when we attempted to put her in the pool. She didn't even want her feet in it. So, she hung out in her swimsuit and coverup, looking stylish.

Opening a present.

This cow really liked Gianna.

The cow crept up on her and nosed her arm.

Casual country baby (I mean big girl).

Happy Birthday, Gianna!

You can tell she loves opening presents as much as her mommy!

Investigating the many uses of her new toys.

Listening to dad read her card from Grandma and Grandpa (and playing with the envelope).

This card from Great-Aunt Laura and Uncle Dale is fascinating!

Hugging her new friend, Abby. Thanks!

Stay tuned for pics of cake and ice-cream. We are celebrating all weekend!

Gianna's new friend

Gianna made a new friend on Sunday. Matt and I hung out with Matthew and Charisse and their son Sean. Charisse is also a pharmacist and when she was pregnant she was my student. We pretty much ate and talked about babies for 6 weeks. Now the little ones finally got to meet. Sean is an older man by about 6 weeks. You can see the wisdom in his eyes. I am not sure he was too thrilled about hanging out with a girl, but we'll work on it. I am sure many play dates are in the future!
